Ithra’s Idea Lab is home to a creative community dedicated to inspiring and activating innovation within the Kingdom and responsible for overseeing the successful implementation of programmes including Tanween, Creative Solutions Residency Program, and many others. Opened 2018, it is one of the Kingdom’s leading cultural and creative destinations for talent development and cross-cultural experiences. Headlining the showcase was Routes to Roots, a co-curated exhibition created by Ithra and Italian design platform Isola - the first all-in-one curated digital platform offering visibility to emerging designers, design studios and independent designers around the world. Gathering a milieu of references, our designers seamlessly connect the worlds of art, history, architecture, sociology, and psychology to assemble the best design for each of our projects. Judges considered the complexity of design, project objectives, and innovation in combining lighting and controls solutions for each submission.

AE Design Brings Home Six Awards
This project consists of the renovation of approximately 3,290 square feet of office space for a new dermatology clinic. This project consists of approximately 5,000 square feet of renovations for an infusion services floor, which includes chemotherapy and medical oncology care. Under the leadership of Avigail Eisenstadt, a graduate of New York School of Interior Design, AE Design Group assures that each project reaches the highest standard of design in any chosen style.
Jon and Jeff began to see lighting as the bridge between creativity and engineering – the perfect specialty within their degrees. Drawing upon their education in this field, they built a solid foundation to enter a world in which architects and their teams bring architecture to life. Over 370,000 professional visitors attend the fair each year, just under 70 per cent of them from 188 other countries, along with more than 5,000 national and international journalists and around 27,500 members of the public at the weekend. Designed by emerging Saudi architects Abdulqader Alsuwaidan, Nawaf Alghamdi, Hayat Almousa and Lama Dardas, Iwan draws its design inspiration from the Islamic Iwan and abstracted shapes of the Muqarnas, a form of decorative vaulting in Islamic architecture.

Our comprehensive package of design services includes initial consultation, space planning, interior design, procurement, and implementation. Many years ago, two aspiring architectural engineers, Jon Brooks and Jeff Mullikin, enrolled in the Architectural Engineering program at the University of Colorado, eager to learn more about buildings and the process of transforming them from a vision to a reality. Jon and Jeff went on to learn about structural, civil, and mechanical engineering, architecture, construction management, and the nuances of electrical engineering. However, it wasn’t until they took their first lighting design class, that they fully realized their passion for all things electrical.
This project was complete with six exam rooms, one procedure room, a phototherapy room, waiting room, reception desk, medical assistant stations, offices, clean and dirty utility rooms, charting areas, break room, and new staff and patient toilet rooms. The Inpatient Oncology Pavilion is provided with 20 inpatient rooms, a nursing station, patient and family concierge, conference area, and staff respite suite. Additionally, families wishing to remain with their loved one are provided with overnight accommodations in one of two bedroom suites provided in the renovation. Finally, the renovation includes a comfort and healing lounge that serves as a sanctuary where programs like music and art therapy can occur.

Originally an empty office suite, this renovation demolished 100 percent of the walls, doors and other items within the existing suite to provide the optimum layout for the new dermatology clinic requirements.
So, by bringing together designers from diverse backgrounds and nationalities, including the Middle East and Far East, Isola Design Festival hoped to inspire an approach that transcended borders and traditional ways of seeing design. Through a collaborative design process, we create technology design solutions that meet the client's current and future needs. We design technology systems such as wired and wireless data networks, telecommunications cabling, and electronic safety/security systems that integrate with each other and the other complex building systems in a facility. A 3-D printed version of the original Iwan installation (constructed entirely from aluminum sheets) was also showcased along with Routes to Roots in the Milan Galleria Giovanni Bonelli, located in the heart of Isola quarter, next to Porta Garibaldi train station in Milan. Both Routes to Roots and Iwan highlighted an eco-conscious approach to design integrating biomaterials, natural resources, household and industrial waste and seamlessly blend traditional methods with innovation to craft modern design pieces.
The AE Design team incorporated Lutron Vive wireless controls with BACnet capabilities allowing the facility to monitor its energy usage and control the wide variety of luminaires and linear light sources in a more granular fashion. The controls also support daylight harvesting functions, enabled via skylights and roll-up doors, as well as localized color tuning and dimming. This perspective has been the keystone of AE Design’s success throughout the years and is passed along to all employees, clients and partners from the moment they engage with the firm. Naturally, Jon and Jeff kicked off their professional careers at the same firm after graduating college.
